New Zealanders making the hop to Australia for work or play can now pick up Aussie dollars at their local ATM, according to a news release by BNZ.
BNZ began stocking two specially upgraded ATMs in Auckland with Australian cash in December 2010. Based on the success of the service, the bank has since extended the service to other cities, including four new locations late last week.
“Demand for AUD in our ATMs is growing at pace and, as the only New Zealand bank to have this innovation, we’re pleased to also be attracting a lot of non-BNZ customers to the service,” said Andy Symons, BNZ director of retail.
Symons said the service, which costs the same as over-the-counter exchange, shows clear usage patterns. “Interestingly the ATMs experience a clear uplift in transactions mid-week, suggesting business commuters enjoy the convenience of quickly grabbing some Aussie cash before heading across the Tasman," he said.
