Karnataka Bank, FIS introduce the 'e-lobby' to Indian accountholders

Bank customers will be able to carry out most branch transactions outside of business hours using the self-service e-lobby.

May 7, 2015

Karnataka Bank Ltd., a major privately owned bank based in southwestern India, will expand 24/7 transaction banking access to its customers with its new "e-lobby" services, supported through a multiyear ATM outsourcing agreement with FIS.

According to a press release, FIS e-lobby services will provide bank customers with digital and self-service transaction capability outside of normal branch hours, and will offer many of the most common branch transactions.

Customers of the bank now have the option to make deposits, withdrawals, check remittance and other frequent transactions, such as statement request, pin change and passbook printing from a nearby e-lobby site, the release said.

"Outsourcing its e-banking services to FIS allowed Karnataka Bank to reinvent the way it interacts with customers, benefiting customers by expanding service while maintaining an eye on the bottom line," said Raja Gopalakrishnan, FIS EVP for global financial institutions.

"Not only will FIS' support allow us to better focus on our customers, it also will make us one of the first midsize banks in India to provide e-lobby access, extending more convenient access to our customers and allowing us to better compete with larger banks," said Karnataka Bank Managing Director and CEO Sri. P. Jayarama Bhat.

In addition to deploying and managing the e-lobby centers, FIS manages more than 1,000 ATMs for the FI.
