TOKYO -- Japan Financial Logistics, a joint venture that includes Asahi Bank, will team with ATM Japan Ltd., an affiliate of NCR Japan Ltd., to maintain and run bank ATMs, according to the Nikkei Financial Daily.
Generally, Japan's financial institutions have been running their own ATM networks via affiliated firms. However, costs are rising as the machines' operating hours are extended. The two firms aim to make outsourcing more efficient by servicing multiple institutions.
In the tie-up, JFL will specialize in such jobs as filling the machines with cash, checking balances and responding to problems, while ATM Japan will focus on operating and developing monitoring systems.
At least five city banks and Bank of Yokohama are expected to sign on for the service.
