Joint Electronic Teller Services Ltd. is rolling out mobile NFC payments in Hong Kong and Macau with its member banks using the Gemalto LinqUs trusted service management platform.
JETCO operates an ATM network for 30 member banks in Hong Kong and Macau. Gemalto says its TSM platform enables JETCO to distribute and manage mobile payment services securely. It complies with international interoperability standards such as Global Platform and offers JETCO the flexibility to interact with secure elements in various form factors. Secure elements store a cardholder's payment credentials on a mobile device.
"A great advantage of the Gemalto TSM's flexible nature is that it will allow our member banks to leverage multiple payment standards," John Tsang, JETCO's deputy general manager, said in a statement.
"The TSM will allow JETCO to play the role of trusted third party for NFC deployment and to collaborate with all of Hong-Kong's mobile operators in a secure manner," Suzanne Tong-Li, president of Greater China and Korea at Gemalto, said in a statement.
The NFC rollout will enable end users to use their mobile phones to transact at 10,000 NFC-ready point-of-sale terminals belonging to participating merchants.
Amsterdam, Netherlands-based Gemalto is also supporting JETCO with consulting services for platform setup and integration.
