MUFG Bank, based in Japan, announced it will limit the hours of its ATMs by the end of 2023 as a cost-cutting measure for 98 locations across Japan. The bank made this decision due to decreased cash usage and the rise of cashless payments, according to a report by Nikkei Asia.
ATM usage between midnight and 6 a.m. only accounts for 0.1% of the total number of times customers have used the ATMs. In addition, there are 24-hour ATMs located inside of convenience stores.
