Japanese bank rolling out smart cards

Japan Today: Mizuho Bank will introduce ATM cards with integrated-circuit chips in March for its 28 million regular savings accounts customers. The move is intended to help prevent card cloning, bank officials said.

The new cards will have other advanced functions such as digital money and a point system. The bank will ask its customers to replace their current cards and is expected to charge them for the replacement.
