Italian bank, Gemalto partner on painless process for PIN procurement

November 15, 2016

Turin, Italy-based Banca Intesa Sanpaolo and Gemalto have marked the latest state of their digital collaboration with the introduction of the world's first comprehensive e-PIN notification service, according to a press release.

By the end of the year, Intesa customers will have the ability to access instant PIN notifications via their mobile phone, tablet or PC with the integration of Gemalto PIN-by-SMS, PIN-by-web and PIN-by-app solutions.

More than 800,000 codes have already been securely distributed via these e-channels to Intesa customers at significant cost savings compared with traditional postal delivery.

Customers may activate and use their new credit and debit cards immediately upon receiving notification of their new PIN, and those who might have forgotten their PIN can also receive a reminder of they number via an e-channel.

Intesa Sanpaolo is one of the largest banks in the Eurozone, and adoption of Gemalto's PIN by e-channel solution is integral to the reimagining of its in-branch and digital banking offers, stated the release.

"Real-time electronic PIN delivery is a key element of our vision for digital, multichannel banking," said Massimo Tessitore, head of the mobile payment and e-commerce direct channel at Intesa.

"In a fiercely competitive commercial environment, digitalization offers banks a route to improved customer service, market differentiation, reduced overhead and the creation of trusted ecosystems," said Philippe Cambriel,  president of Gemalto Europe, Mediterranean and CIS.
