Island Pay intros digital currency wallet for tourists in the Bahamas

Island Pay, a digital currency technology provider, launched its Tourist Wallet App and Small Merchant App to allow travelers in the Bahamas to pay with Sand Dollars, the digital currency of the Bahamas Central Bank. With this tool, tourists can circumnavigate low credit card acceptance in the area and forego cash, according to a press release.

Small business owners can download the Small Merchant app to accept Sand Dollars.

"Island Pay is excited to bring this technology to market, which we firmly believe will be game changing for the local economy," Richard Douglas, CEO, and co-founder of Island Pay, said in the release. "As a champion in the fight to democratize access to money, we hope other Central Banks will be looking at the success of the Sand Dollar and the innovation of The Central Bank of The Bahamas as a strong case study for what is possible as we move further along the path to a digital economy."
