Ill. police arrest suspect who may be linked to 34 ATM thefts

December 29, 2004

Peoria (Ill.) Journal Star: Recent arrest warrants for two Abingdon, Ill., men link only two of 36 open investigations into the theft or attempted thefts of ATMs throughout an eight-county area of central Illinois, according to police.

But some officials say that with one man in Henry County custody and one still at large Wednesday, the cases will be linked eventually.

"I think that's just a matter of time," Henry County Sheriff Gib Cady said. "I'd almost bet you a foot-long hot dog if I'm wrong. I think they'll all fall into place."

Offices in a multi-department task force arrested Paul E. Miller, 35, in connection with two of the Henry County investigations, including an ATM theft in Alpha and an attempt in Andover. Police were still looking for Timothy L. Lucas, 36.

"We're still operating as if he's in the area," Galesburg Police Lt. David Clague said. "The next step is to continue on in our investigation of the other 34 thefts."
