The Henry County Sheriff's Office has warned of a rise in ATM jackpotting in the area. With this technique, criminals install equipment or software to trick the ATM into dispensing cash, according to a report by ABC 13.
The criminals also may disguise themselves as technicians to avoid suspicion from the general public. The office asks residents to be aware of people dressed as technicians without identification or unmarked vehicles parked near ATMs.
"Public awareness plays an important role in preventing these crimes. By staying observant and reporting unusual behavior, you help protect financial institutions and the community," the office said.
