Handwritten notes on ATMs cost customers thousands

KNBC-TV:  A 27-year-old California man was charged June 23 with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary after he allegedly rigged ATMs to withhold cards and put up hand-written signs telling users to enter their PIN three times if the machine jams, said Garden Grove, Calif., police investigator Mike Farley.

The man and two cousins would watch customers as they entered their codes, police said, and would then unjam the slot, retrieve the ATM cards and withdraw money using codes they memorized.
