MACEDONIA, Greece - Police in northern Greece believe they may be close to cracking an international gang specializing in bank card fraud after Oct. 5's arrest of two men at the Bulgarian border who were trying to smuggle into Greece a device that copies card data from ATMs.
According to a report in the Kathimerininewspaper, the two suspects are a Bulgarian national and an ethnic Greek from Georgia.
A search of their car at the Promachonas crossing, near Serres in eastern Macedonia, revealed skimming devices that can used to copy the card data of ATM users. Police also found 200 forged cards stashed in the car.
In early August, a micro-camera capable of recording PINs was discovered installed on a bank ATM in the northern town of Komotini, according to the Kathimerini.
