EUGENE, Ore. -- When Carol Kurtis' ATM transaction was interrupted by a medical emergency, she didn't hesitate to help. Unfortunately, someone else didn't hesitate to take Kurtis' money.
According to a report in the Register-Guard, Kurtis was using an ATM at a US Bank branch when an elderly woman nearby clutched her chest and fell over. Kurtis, a former emergency medical technician, ran to the woman's aid.
While she helped the woman's husband load her into a car, someone swiped Kurtis' $80.
"I feel like a fool," said an embarrassed Kurtis when contacted by the Register-Guard at her office. "I almost didn't tell the bank what happened because I felt so dumb."
Bank employees plan to review tapes from the ATM security camera. The bank also contacted Eugene police.
