XINHUA -- As part of the Golden Card Project, ATMs and POS terminals in Beijing are capable of recognizing 11 cards issued by eight local banks, Zhang Zhenming, general manager of the Beijing Golden Card Networking Co. told a recent press conference. Possessors of any of the 11 cards can withdraw cash from the ATMs and make payments at POS units at retailing centers, according to an article published by Xinhua News Agency. Banks participating in the network are: the Industrial and Commercial Bank, the Bank of China, the Agricultural Bank of China, the Construction Bank, the Bank of Communications, the Beijing Commercial Bank, the Post Bureau, and the CITIC Bank. Currently, there are over 800 ATMs and nearly 10,000 POSs around the city, and 3.55 million cards are in use.
