Ghana's push for nationwide banking connectivity has suppliers of ATM and bank switches stepping up efforts toward the integration of their systems into the national switch, said a report at myjoyonline.com.
Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems wants to make it possible for bank customers to use their ATM cards on any ATM or E-zwich POS. As the new system takes shape, ATMs and ATM cards in Ghana will be rebranded with a new logo and will bear the GHIPSS insignia. The GHIPSS has yet to settle upon a program name and logo.
“Currently, because we’ve moved into the interoperable environment, we need a logo that will tell or inform the general public that if you have this card, it will work on these ATMs," said Archie Hesse, general manager for projects and business development at GhIPSS. "Having a GHIPPS logo on a card means you can withdraw money on any of the ATM’s bearing that logo.”
