Gas station offers "human ATMs" to help customers

October 19, 2020

In India's Hebbal housing and industrial area, Sri Varaprada Fuels, a local Bharat gas station, is not just dispensing fuel, but providing customers with banking access through Fino's Micro ATM and Aadhaar-enabled payment systems, according to IBCworldnews.com report.

The staff at the station, known as "human ATMs," have been trained to help customers deposit, withdraw, transfer money and open accounts.

In addition to BPCL fuel outlets, there are approximately 3,000 neighborhood small business owners participating in Fino's banking network spread across South Karnataka.

"The advantage of the local shops and BPCL outlets is that they are close by and are open till late in the evening allowing customers transact at their convenience either using a debit card or through Aadhaar authentication," Praveen Kumar, state head, Fino Payments Bank, told the news outlet. "Importantly, customers can focus on their work or business, while merchants can earn on every transaction. Also, cash is always available at these outlets unlike at some ATMs."

Along with banking customers can also purchase insurance, pay utility bills, and recharge DishTV.
