First National Bank customers in Swaziland on Tuesday fell victim to a blackout of ATM communication facilities throughout the country.
According to a reportin The Observer, transactions were suspended for nearly four hours. Despite rumors of a computer system crash at FNB, the bank said the problem came from an external source.
FNB Governance and Compliance Manager Hezekial Nsibandze told the Observer that the blackout was caused by problems in a cable owned by Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation.
Nsibandze said the line developed faults on the South African side resulting in the communication blackout and that FNB was not the only organization affected.
