First Data certifies Diebold's IFX apps

August 10, 2004

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Diebold, Incorporated and First Data Corp. are certifying their new Interactive Financial eXchange (IFX) applications for ATMs, thus becoming the first ATM manufacturer/third-party processor combination to offer IFX.

"As more of our clients migrate to Windows-based ATMs, we're committed to continuing to offer value-add products to maximize the value of their investment and enhance the end-use experience," said Ronald Congemi, president, First Data Debit Services.

IFX is an XML-based message protocol which can become the communication standard across a financial institution's delivery channels, fostering interoperability among banking systems. (Read related story: (Not) lost in translation)

According to a news release, Agilis software can simultaneously support a financial institution's existing infrastructure and emerging standards, including IFX. This ability enables customers to migrate to next-generation technology at their own pace.

"Our Agilis Windows-based multi-vendor terminal software allows ourcustomers to enjoy an effortless and seamless migration to new standards that meet their strategic direction and their appetite for new technology," said Sarah Johnson, vice president of Global Software and Services at Diebold. "By leveraging Agilis, our customers can take advantage of an efficient migration across their entire fleet of ATMs."

First Data expects to be in production with IFX-certified ATMs in 2004's third quarter.
