First Bank & Trust expands into North Carolina

First Bank & Trust Company, a community bank with more than 30 locations in Virginia and Tennessee, recently opened one branch in Mount Airy, North Carolina, under a different brand: First Bank & Trust Co. of Virginia. The bank also plans to open a second location in Red Oak as early as November, according to a press release.

The Mount Airy location is a loan production office, but the Red Oak branch will be its first full-service location in the state.

"Over the last few years, it's become very clear to our team that we can have a positive impact in the North Carolina market, particularly in relation to agriculture lending," Mark Nelson, president and CEO at First Bank & Trust, said in the release. "As we have retained more customers from North Carolina, despite working across state lines, we knew it was time for us to move forward with branch expansion in that market."
