Fifth Third Bank has introduced financial management tools in its app to help customers manage savings and expenses. The update comes as recent data shows only 63% of U.S. adults could cover a $400 emergency with cash, according to a press release.

One tool is the Plan feature, which allows the app's 2.4 million monthly users to view visual breakdowns of cash flow, set personalized goals and receive insights on daily spending patterns.

"Our customers told us they want help managing their money, and they want it from a source they trust," Ben Hoffman, chief strategy officer and head of consumer products at Fifth Third, said in the release.

The 167-year-old institution is positioning the in-app experience as a more secure, integrated alternative to third-party budgeting subscriptions. The tools supplement the bank's existing "Momentum Banking" features, such as early access to paychecks and overdraft protection.

Pat Saad, head of consumer digital at Fifth Third, said the bank intends to expand the platform with further automation. "Consumers want smarter tools, not more apps," Saad said.

Customers can access the new features through the navigation menu in the latest version of the app.
