Fifth Third Bank announced it plans to close a branch at a Kroger in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, which is within the Cincinnati metro area. The bank is the largest in the Cincinnati area, with 94 branches, according to a report by Biz Journals.
The branch will close on Aug. 25 and will redirect customer accounts to a branch in Crescent Springs. However, Fifth Third Bank has plans to open additional branches in the area, such as one in the Avondale and Cleves Ohio and another in Union, Kentucky. It has also expanded in the Southeastern U.S. with 130 branches over the past years.
"As part of our ongoing branch rationalization strategy, we're evolving our network to reflect where and how our customers live and work today. That sometimes means consolidating some locations into more strategically placed centers that better serve the needs of our communities," Shawn Niehaus, head of consumer banking, Fifth Third Bank, said in the report.
