The Federal Home Bank of Chicago provided a $2 million Affordable Housing Program grant through its member IFF to support Trailvlew Cottages, a 40-unit workforce and affordable housing development in Hayward, Wisconsin, according to a press release.

The project was developed by Impact Seven, which also serves as property manager. The community features one-, two-, and three-bedroom cottage-style apartments built with energy-efficient structural insulated panels. Designed to address regional housing shortages, the development sits adjacent to Tamarack Health, helping the hospital system recruit clinicians who previously struggled to find local housing.

Additionally, Northwood Technical College leases a classroom inside the community center to offer adult education, diploma programs and technical training to residents and the surrounding community.

"Trailview Cottages shows what's possible when our members and local partners work together to expand access to affordable housing and connect residents with workforce training close to home," Katie Naftzger, senior vice president and community investment officer at FHLBank Chicago, said in the release.

An economic impact analysis by Lightcast estimated that construction generated $26.5 million in economic output and supported 116 jobs across the regional economy.
