Father, son arrested in NYC for ATM theft

New York City police arrested James Allen, 72, and his 45-year-old son, Ed Allen, Wednesday for allegedly stealing an outdoor ATM , according to aNew York Post report.

The police are investigating to determine if the pair are also involved with more than a half-dozen other ATM thefts in Manhattan.

The Allens were spotted Wednesday at approximately 4:30 a.m. by detectives with the NYPD's Grand Larceny Division on Clinton Street, where the outdoor ATM was located, according to the news report.

Once spotted by police, the pair took off in a stolen van and headed north on the FDR drive. They sideswiped a police car on East 52nd street before being apprehended by police, according to police.

James Allen, who has 11 prior arrests that include assault and grand larceny, was charged with the ATM theft, and the theft of two other machines that had been stolen in May and June respectively. Ed Allen, who has 53 prior arrests, including grand larceny and assault, was also charged.
