According to a report from Melbourne, Australia's The Age, an international ATM card-skimming expert has warned that the country is a "soft target" for card-skimming gangs because of its large withdrawal limits and antiquated ATM technology.
Elvis Tudose, a chief inspector with the Romanian police, spoke at the National Identity Crime Symposium on Australia's Gold Coast Tuesday said card-skimming gangs are drawn to Australia because the potential profits would outweigh the punishment for a first-time offender.
According to the report, Tudose advises stricter penalties for card skimming and a greater emphasis on education and awareness.
