Encore Networks intros low-end legacy to IP converter at RDS

November 17, 2003

DULLES, Va. - Encore Networks, a developer of integrated IP+Legacy Virtual Private Network (VPN) security solutions, is introducing the IBR-10*, a Legacy to IP converter developed for the banking and financial services market, at the BAI Retail Delivery Conference and Expo (booth #3241).

Designed specifically to handle the requirements of ATM networks, remote terminals and cluster controllers operating over slow legacy protocols, the IBR-10* provides third party EFT processors and financial institutions the ability to modernize their transaction and financial networks by taking advantage of faster, packet-based technologies.

Most ATMs still communicate via modems over analog leased lines using protocols such as Bisync, Poll-Select and SDLC. The Encore Networks IBR-10* converter, available in December, can connect these ATMs to either Frame Relay or IP networks by providing protocol conversion and spoofing.

According to a news release, the converter's list price is $645.

The IBR-10* IP+Legacy converter's ELIOS operating system and its use of standards-based physical interfaces make it easy to integrate with other networking equipment, and allow it to interoperate with previously installed, off-the-shelf IP routers and Ethernet switches.

"Improved performance, faster response time, lower network transport and operational costs are key drivers behind migrating financial and transaction data traffic to broadband packet architecture," said Abir Hnidi, Encore Networks' chief technical officer, in the release. "Encore's IBR-10 IP+Legacy converter allows network planners to leverage their existing installed base of ATM terminals while providing a painless evolution strategy from legacy poll select, SDLC, SNA, VISA II and Bisync technologies to the much faster and more cost effective IP infrastructure."
