El Salvador has purchased $20.9 million dollars of bitcoin as the country prepares to adopt the cryptocurrency as legal tender. President Nayib Bukele announced on Twitter the country had made the purchase of 400 bitcoins, according to a report by CNBC.
Bukele claimed the country would purchase more bitcoin soon to add to its balance sheet.
Not everyone is happy with this development. In fact, in a survey by the Central American University, nearly 70% of El Salvadorans disagreed with this decision to adopt bitcoin.
