HERNDON, Va. -- The Electronic Funds Transfer Association (EFTA) has appointed three co-chairs for its Electronic Commerce Payments Council. The year-old Council, EFTA's newest, is an inter-industry forum for retailers, financial institutions, networks, payment solution providers and regulators to explore emerging e-commerce payment models.
The newly appointed Electronic Commerce Payments Council (eCPC) co-chairs are Steven W. Klebe, Don P. Moehrke and Paul A. Tomasofsky. They will preside at the eCPC's next quarterly meeting on Nov. 15 in Woodcliff Lake, N.J.
Klebe is vice president of strategic alliances, payment and risk at CyberSource Corporation, a provider of risk management and electronic payment solutions for enterprise businesses and a pioneer in Internet fraud detection. He is responsible for developing strategic relationships with key players in the payments and risk management industries for the Mountain View, Calif.-based organization, as well as providing consulting services on payment and risk-related matters.
As executive vice president of Benton International, a consultancy with a worldwide practice, Moehrke is active in e-commerce technology and security initiatives. In addition, he assists the largest EFT networks in the U.S. and Canada in managing the technical aspects of their growth. Benton International, headquartered in Torrance, Calif., is a Perot Systems company.
Tomasofsky is vice president for advanced products at Woodcliff Lake, N.J.-based NYCE Corporation, one of the country's leading electronic payments processing companies. At NYCE, he contributes to strategic and tactical decisions for NYCE's emerging products including SafeDebit, an online debit e-commerce initiative.
Rene Pelegero, director of global payments for Amazon.com, continues to serve as an eCPC co-chair. He was appointed in February.
The eCPC was organized in October 2000 in response to the industry's need for a multi-disciplinary working group dedicated to exploring emerging e-commerce payment models. Approximately 40 organizations comprise the Council's membership.
At the Nov. 15 eCPC meeting, industry representatives will present a variety of e-commerce payment solutions and panelists will address security issues in a wireless e-commerce environment. Speakers will include Thomas E. Honey, consultant and former head of strategy and marketing for UTM Systems Corp.; Stacey Pinkert, senior vice president of e-commerce products for Visa U.S.A.; Moehrke, and Emile Soueid, CEO of WirelessTies, LLC.
Council participation is limited to EFTA members, but the Association will welcome industry representatives as guests at the upcoming meeting. For more information, please contact eftassoc@efta.org.
