Diebold vet to lead ATMIA Europe

December 21, 2003

CAPE TOWN, South Africa - Graham McKay, currently Diebold's manager of Service Business Development for the EMEA region, will become the new executive director of the ATM Industry Industry Association's European chapter.

McKay will assume the duties of leading ATMIA's second-largest chapter forward in April, according to a news release.

McKay recently won ATMIA's 2003 Global ATM Security Award in the category of Best Contribution to Promoting the Growth and Interests of the Industry. He recently completed a master's degree in criminology.

"Ever since I began working with Graham on the board of ATMIA Europe, I have enjoyed listening to his tough but wise voice of experience. He has immense knowledge of the ATM markets throughout the diverse EMEA region which will equip him to lead the European chapter with fortitude and insight into the future," said Mike Lee, ATMIA's international director, in the release.

McKay's appointment follows the securing of two security advisers on a part-time basis to assist the chapter with its intensive ATM security work. Alan Townsend, crime prevention coordinator for the Flying Squad at New Scotland, will serve as ATMIA's adviser for the UK on a voluntary basis, while Lachlan Gunn, an ATM security consultant who has authored a white paper on ATM lifecycle security, is the association's new European security adviser.

The conversion to smart cards as part of EMV compliance, tackling cross-border fraud and extending the use of convenience ATMs are all key challenges for the European ATM market in 2004, according to the release.
