Diebold to resell Thales security modules for PIN encryption

March 24, 2003

WESTON, Fla. -- Thales e-Security, which sells host security modules (HSMs) among other payment security products, has ntered into a reseller agreement with ATM manufacturer Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE:DBD).

According to a news release, the agreement enables Diebold to resell the Thales e-Security HSM 8000 directly to existing and new customers who want a migration path to Triple DES encryption and remote key loading.

The Thales Host Security Module for Diebold Systems, based on Thales' HSM 8000 platform, has been specifically tailored to meet the performance and functional requirements of Diebold transaction processing solutions, according to the release.

The module is designed for the transaction volumes of community banks and credit unions and other smaller ATM/point-of-sale networks. The new modules, which provides a platform for all PIN-based Triple DES transactions including PIN encryption, translation and verification, are fully backwards compatible with Thales' HSM 7000 range.

Thales e-Security, which provides electronic security products for more than half of the world's banks as well as many financial exchanges, is a member of Diebold's Partner Information Exchange (PIX) program and TAG, the Diebold user group.
