Diebold to manage ATMs for Chinese bank

July 6, 2004

BEIJING - Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD - News) has won the first contract with China's Bank of Communications (BoCOM) to provide managed services for its nationwide ATM network.

According to the agreement, Diebold's comprehensive managed services, including content distribution, event monitoring and transaction processing data collection based on Web technology, will help BoCOM manage its ATM network of more than 5,000 terminals across more than 2,000 business outlets.

According to a news release, the project is the first nationwide large-scale managed services deal in the self-service industry within the China market.

BoCOM, one of China's five major commercial banks, in October 2003 initiated its nationwide ATMnet Managed Services project. After evaluating all eligible vendors, BoCOM chose Diebold as its service provider for the project.

Some advanced functions of Diebold's managed services allow a bank's ATM network to become more user-friendly. For example, banks can post customized greetings on ATM screens during traditional Chinese festivals. Diebold's content distribution services also enable banks to add new screen content or additional functions to individual ATMs across the country without interrupting ongoing services.

Another advantage of Diebold's managed services facilitates running different ATM software and configurations as a result of network consolidation. Thus, banks can accurately monitor the status of their ATMs and promptly respond to service requests in a timely manner, according to the release.
