Diebold rolls out open-standards software at RDS

November 3, 2002

ATLANTA -- One of the key products on display at the Diebold, Incorporated booth at this week's Retail Delivery Show Nov. 4-7 is Agilis™, the manufacturer's new open standard platform for ATMs.

According to a news release, the Agilis software provides the ability to run the same software across all the Microsoft Windows-based ATMs in their network -- even those made by other vendors -- and offers the ability to take advantage of technologies such as the Internet, XFS 2.0 and 3.0, and .NET.

"As new functionality presents itself in the future, financial institutions will be able to implement it more quickly and easily than ever before using Diebold's new Agilis software platform," said Danny O'Brien, Diebold's senior vice president of Global Product Development and Engineering. "Because of the modular nature of Agilis and the ability to use standard, off-the-shelf tools, making the necessary changes to applications that support new features can be reduced to days or weeks, instead of the months and years that were once required."

According to the release, the Agilis suite of software consists of solutions ranging from advertising to maintenance applications. The core terminal software includes three distinct applications, each designed with the specific needs of financial networks in mind. Using these turnkey applications means financial institutions will not need to make changes to their existing hosts, according to the release.

Agilis 91x™ is designed for use in ATM networks that run on Diebold 911/912 message formats. Agilis NDx™ is for ATM networks using NCR's NDC or NDC+ message formats, and Agilis 3x™ is for ATM networks using the 473X format.

For customers who want to fully customize their software applications, Diebold Professional Services experts can use Agilis Power™ from the Agilis software family, a collection of software components and a component repository released earlier this year. According to the release, Agilis software incorporates INvolve™, a middleware software product from Nexus Software, Incorporated. INvolve middleware insulates Diebold's Agilis applications from manufacturer-specific device drivers, so that an Agilis application always has a consistent middleware interface, according to the release.

"Not only can Agilis easily be integrated into other systems, but our standard Agilis applications allow financial institutions to preserve their investment in screen development by allowing a seamless fit with the screens used in legacy software products," O'Brien said.
