Diebold releases ValiTech ATM security technology

Diebold Inc. has announced the release of ValiTech, a two-factor authentication technology that uses a secure USB device to identify and authorize ATM service technicians.

According to a news release from Diebold, ValiTech is engineered in-house and works in concert with other Diebold security technologies, providing secure access to the system level of the ATM for authorized Diebold service personnel.

Diebold says the device uses a digital certificate from VeriSign and controls access using a PIN or pass phrase, set and known only by the technician. ValiTech then uniquely identifies the authorized Diebold associate and grants restricted access to the ATM's functions based on the technician's role and status. Finally, ValiTech creates a unique audit trail documenting each time a technician is granted access and recording all menu activities executed during the service call.
