CHICAGO -- Diebold is demonstrating its new CS Value Terminal(CSVT), an automated value load station that can be used with many formats of both magnetic stripe and smart card, at the Chicago CardTech/SecurTech '99 conference.
The CSVT combines the ability to accept and dispense both magnetic stripe and smart cards. It is also the first value load terminal able to process transactions using both cash and credit/debit cards.
The terminal resembles an ATM minus the cash dispenser. It includes a cash, coin and card acceptor. Cardholders can load value to online accounts or electronic purses by inserting currency or coins, adding value from a credit card account or transferring value from a debit card account.
"We designed the CSVT to add flexibility and functionality to campus card systems, but it's also generating considerable interest among the primary deployers of the open-system stored-value smart card schemes," said Gary Lorenz, general manager of Diebold Card Systems. "The terminal's cash acceptor feature fills the long-standing need for a method of loading value on smart cards in international markets where credit cards are not widely available."
An optional card dispenser is also available to issue disposable plastic magnetic stripe or smart cards for casual users, enabling campus visitors and other non-cardholders to take advantage of a campus card system. With customized software, the CSVT can also be deployed at special events, or at sports and entertainment venues.
The terminal is intended for indoor, wall-mount installation either with or without a pedestal. It includes a graphics-capable display that can be used for logos and other informational or marketing messages. The graphics capability also enables the display of international character sets, allowing the terminal to be deployed in nearly any market.
