Diebold forms Poland subsidiary

August 31, 1999

WARSAW, Poland -- Diebold is driving its efforts to penetrate Eastern Europe with a new subsidiary in Poland and contracts with four new banks there. Forming Diebold Poland, Diebold is intensifying its efforts to be a global leader of the ATM industry in Eastern Europe. "The decision to open a direct operation in Poland, a key market for Diebold, highlights the company's firm intention to enhance activity levels in Eastern Europe," said Michael J. Hillock, Diebold's senior vice president, international sales and service. The four new bank contracts are in addition to seven that currently use Diebold ATMs. Diebold currently has 700 units installed in the existing seven banks. "We intend to control our own destiny and have a clear objective to lead the self-service terminal market in Europe," Hillock said.
