Demand for cash remains strong in America, according to a report by NCR Atleos. In particular, low-to-moderate income neighborhoods have a strong demand for cash, seeing 38% more transactions per machine than richer regions, according to a press release.

Average withdrawal amounts for both affluent and LMI areas are similar, despite the fact that affluent areas have around twice as many ATMs. In the report, NCR Atleos analyzed 20 metro areas and found LMI locations had larger transaction volumes in every metro area.

"Being part of a mission-driven industry — expanding access and retaining choice for consumers — is important to our customers and employees," Ben Bregman, SVP of solutions for Atleos, said in the release. "Cash is a foundational part of how millions of Americans manage their finances, especially in communities where cash is preferred for its certainty and immediacy as a payment mechanism. As financial institutions rethink their physical footprints, ensuring reliable access to cash is essential for equity, inclusion and consumer choice. Atleos is committed to delivering the solutions that keep that access strong and sustainable."
