Datacard instant issuance gets quick flood relief to Alberta, Canada

August 5, 2013

Datacard Group, a Minnesota-based provider of secure ID and card personalization solutions, has reported that its instant issuance solutions were used to provide prepaid cards to Canadians affected by recent massive flooding in Alberta.

Severe flooding forced thousands of residents to evacuate their homes throughout southern Alberta, including the city of Calgary. The Alberta government set up a flood assistance program to issue prepaid cards to affected Albertans — $1,250 per adult and $500 per child.

Datacard Group worked closely with Alberta to help the government quickly issue cards to thousands of flood victims. The company sent a member of its financial instant issuance team to Calgary to help with the program, as well as laptop computers with Datacard CardWizard issuance software securely loaded and configured.

The Datacard CD820 instant issuance system facilitated printing, card personalization and issuance. And the company brought in one one of its Canadian card program partners to provide payment card activation and funds loading.

"Our thoughts go out to all those that were affected by the massive flooding in southern Alberta," said Mike Vaselenak, Dartacard financial instant issuance manager for Canada.

"It's very important that the citizens got the help they needed right away, and as a native Calgarian, I am very proud that Datacard Group could respond so quickly and assist Alberta to provide the resources needed to help their citizens."
