Danske Bank is planning to phase out all of its existing payment cards and replacing them them with cards made from 86% recycled plastic, according to a report in Finextra.
The eco-friendly cards will be launched first for Danske Bank's Pocket Money account, which is aimed at children between eight and 14 years of age.
Once a trial period has ended, the new cards will begin replacing the standard plastic cards, both Visa/Dankort and Mastercard, for all customers.
"We're well aware that our more eco-friendly payment cards aren't going to solve the world's climate challenges, but they are a small step in the right direction," Rene Thejsen, head of cards and consumer payments, Danske Bank, said in the report.
