Consumers buy movie tickets in 'Force' via the Internet, online kiosks

March 4, 2002

ATLANTA -- On the opening day of the much awaited "Star Wars" prequel, moviegoers purchased a record number of movie tickets over the Internet and through online kiosks using their credit and debit cards, according to Atlanta-based National Data Corporation.

"This rivals Mother's Day and Valentine's Day in terms of high volume credit card peaks for us," said Tom Dunn, chief operating officer for NDC eCommerce.

NDC's credit card volume increased more than 25 percent at its West Coast center during the first day of the movie's ticket sales. This operation handles online movie ticket card processing volume.

NDC, a provider of electronic commerce solutions and health information services, is the nation's largest provider of transaction processing services to the movie and floral industries.
