NEW ZEALAND -- A computer error is being blamed for potentially thousands of National Bank customers being charged double for their ATM withdrawals on Dec. 30-31, according to a report in the New Zealand Herald.
Checks, automatic payments, direct debits and withdrawals from credit cards were not affected.
The bank's head of corporate affairs for the bank, Cynthia Brophy, told the Herald that the duplicated fees should have been refunded to customers by Jan. 5. She said the bank would also identify cases such as where people might have incurred fees through accounts going into overdraft.
