Companies offer wireless IP access for Canadian ATM operators

January 15, 2003

OTTAWA, Ontario -- Precidia Technologies, a manufacturer of Internet Protocol (IP) access devices, has joined TELUS Mobility's Data Alliance Partner Program to provide a wireless IP solution to the Canadian ATM industry.

According to a news release, the companies are targeting the more than 20,000 "white label" or non-bank ATMs in Canada. Precidia's CellDial wireless IP solution will allow retailers to replace dial line service with wireless connectivity and transaction processing.

The results of a beta test program indicate that monthly communications fees can be reduced by using CellDial in conjunction with TELUS Mobility's "always-on" digital Mike network, according to the release. Telephone installation and administration costs are also eliminated.

The service will also allow an ATM to be installed more quickly, said Deepak Wanner, Precidia Technologies president, in the release. "ATMs can be more easily placed and moved from locations to maximize revenue."

Robert Blumenthal, TELUS Mobility's vice president, Products and Services, said in the release, "The agreement supports TELUS Mobility's strategic focus on providing wireless data/IP services to vertical industries to meet their growing demands for mobility."
