Commerce Secretary praises c-store industry for moving ahead with NACS Show

December 6, 2001

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Saying Americans must remember the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks while resuming their lives with a strong sense of freedom, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Donald L. Evans lauded the convenience store and petroleum marketing industry for moving ahead with its NACS Show Oct. 20-23 in Las Vegas.

"I applaud the National Association of Convenience Stores for moving ahead with this year's NACS Show," Evans said.

The annual NACS show is popular with ATM companies. Exhibiting at NACS this year are Hanco Systems, ATM America, Cardtronics, Armor Safe Technologies, Automated Financial, Concord EFS, Convenience Store Automation, E*Trade ATM, Financial Technologies, ICI Security Systems, Lynk Systems, Specialty Roll Products, Ten Hoeve Brothers, Tidel, Triton and NCR.

"Secretary Evans' remarks reflect well on the dedication, compassion and patriotism shown by our industry to carry on in the aftermath of the September tragedies and events since then," said Steve Visocan, chairman of NACS' Convention Committee and president of Helena, Mont.-based Pop Inn convenience stores. "NACS echoes Secretary Evans' comments and expresses our appreciation to the many state and national associations continuing with their industry events, including the Petroleum Marketers Association of America Fall Convention, the Petroleum Equipment Institute's Convex and the BP/Amoco Marketers Convention."

Evans also praised the convenience store and petroleum marketing industry's efforts on behalf of the victims and rescuers of Sept. 11. Convenience stores nationwide conducted fundraising and blood drives, provided canisters for customers to make donations, and donated food and beverages for relief workers.
