Co-op intros self-service shared branch concept

The new Co-op Shared Branch Express brand will identify locations in the Co-op shared branch network where members of participating CUs can choose self-service banking.

February 18, 2016

Co-op Financial Services has introduced Co-op Shared Branch Express, a concept that delivers shared credit union branch services primarily through self-service devices in retail and branch settings.

The shared branch concept allows members of participating credit unions to enter any branch in the network and perform transactions as if they were at their home branch.

According to a press release, the new brand applies to shared branch program participants that offer self-service on-site. The "express" designation is meant to help members distinguish between full-service and self-service facilities.

At express locations, members can skip teller lines and conduct their most frequent transactions quickly and easily — in some cases with 24/7 access, the release said.

"The Co-op Shared Branch Express branding is a way for credit unions to embrace self-service, advance their branch transformation program and at the same time ensure member convenience," said Co-op President and CEO, Stan Hollen.

The new service and branding will begin rollout in coming weeks to approximately 1,950 eligible locations within the 4,500-location shared branch network, which includes all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Guam and Puerto Rico.
