Circle appoints former Facebook Financial officer as chief compliance, risk officer

Circle, a financial technology firm that offers payments and treasury infrastructure, has appointed Mandeep Walia as its chief compliance and risk officer. Prior to joining Circle, Walia served as chief compliance officer and head of enterprise risk management for Novia, a part of Facebook Financial, according to a press release.

In this role, Walia will help boost Circle's approach to financial crime compliance, anti-money laundering, preventing financing of terrorism and other issues.

"Mandeep is widely recognized as one of the pioneers in enhancing global compliance standards for blockchain-based financial services. A key part of Circle's mission of raising global economic prosperity through programmable internet commerce requires an exacting approach to compliance and risk management that not only advances our business, but that advances our industry," Jeremy Allaire, co-founder and CEO, Circle, said in the release.
