Chinese bank implements finger-vein ID at the ATM

February 20, 2014

This week, the Bank of Lanzhou, headquartered in China's Gansu province, activated its first OKI ATM incorporating finger-vein authentication technology. A press release from the Japanese manufacturer said the bio ID feature makes forgery and identity fraud at the ATM significantly less likely.

The OKI ATM-Recycler G7 incorporates a finger-vein authentication module that the company co-developed with mofiria Corp.

According to a news release from OKI, the company selected the finger-vein module for its ATMs because it required more than a simple surface fingerprint. Finger-vein authentication provides better fraud deterrence, the company said.

Additionally, the mofiria solution is designed to minimize the calculations required for authentication, allowing faster and more secure customer authentication.

The finger-vein authentication featured in Lanzhou will enhance transaction safety, allowing the bank to provide various advanced and convenient services, including cash withdrawals, without cash cards, OKI said.

Moving forward, OKI said it will continue to provide ATMs offering enhanced safety and convenience features in China and other overseas markets.
