The Nilson Report has determined JPMorgan Chase is the largest issuer of credit cards in the U.S., according to a press release.
The 10 largest credit card issuers provided $4.492 trillion in purchase volume and held 82.39% of the market share in the U.S. Chase, Amex, Citi, Capital One and Bank of America owned credit card portfolios of more than $100 billion.
"For the first time in the history of the US credit card industry, two issuers, Chase and American Express, owned credit card portfolios that generated more than $1 trillion in purchase volume in a single year. Even so, the top 10 credit card issuers lost market share in 2022," David Robertson, publisher of the Nilson Report, said in the release.
