CDS certifies CellDial device for wireless ATM connectivity

October 15, 2003

NEW ORLEANS - Transaction processor Columbus Data Services (CDS) says it has certified the PrecidiaCellDial device to process ATM transactions.

According to a news release, the Precidia CellDial device enables a standard dial-up ATM to use cellular communications for ATM processing. CDS is using Southern LINC as its cellular provider for the initial implementation of the device.

"This product will assist those Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs) utilizing CDPD or other types of services on mobile ATMs or those ATMs where phone lines are not possible to process transactions," said John Willmon, vice president of business development for CDS and an early advocate of using CDPD at ATMs. "This is just one of the products we are developing to replace CDPD over the next two years."

According to the release, this product is currently available in the Southeast, where there is little or no CDPD coverage. Wider nationwide availability is expected as other cellular providers introduce their support for the device.

CDS will feature the product in its booth at the ATMIAWest show Oct. 29-30 in Indian Wells, Calif.
