Canada to get its first touchscreen ATMs

March 22, 2012

Dejardins Group, Canada's leading cooperative financial service (similar to a U.S. credit union), has announced that it will add touchscreen user interface ATMs to its network. Dejardins is the first Canadian FI to use the touchscreen ATM technology.

The new ATMs will display several new options on the screen and will also recognize user preferences. For example, simply by touching the screen, the bank customer will see the amount of cash withdrawal he or she regularly requests.

To start, Desjardins will install six touch-screen user interface ATMs in Québec. Feedback from these pilot machines will help provide guidance for the development of other ATMs.

"That's just the beginning," said Normand Desautels, senior VP of personal services. "In this International Year of Cooperatives, Desjardins is proud to demonstrate its sense of innovation by offering its members the unique experience of using a new and improved ATM tailored to their individual needs."
