Caja Madrid, NCR to deploy Web-enabled ATMs

May 4, 2000

MADRID, Spain -- NCR Corporation and Caja Madrid, the second-largest savings bank in Spain, have signed a deal to install an additional 500 Personas 75 ATMs across Spain. Around 250 of the machines will be customized to allow consumers to pay bills, get quotes and buy movie tickets on the spot, using Web-enabled services. Cash and check deposits will be credited in real time with instant proof of the value provided through NCR's imaging technology. "With NCR technology and expertise, Caja Madrid will be able to transfer 70 percent of its over-the-counter services to the ATM," said Ricardo Morado, Caja Madrid's chief information officer. "This will enable us to offer customers new services on the ATM, freeing up our staff to concentrate on providing world class customer service." Beyond standard cash and account services, the ATMs will deliver specific functions for the Spanish self-service market, including passbook updates, bar code reading for bill payment and ticketing. The second-largest savings bank in Iberia, Caja Madrid has assets of $48 billion, 1,750 branches and 2,150 ATMs
