Scotsman.com: Brits will withdraw £1 billion (U.S. $1.8 billion) from the UK's cash machines over the bank holiday weekend, Barclays predicted. Barclays expects consumers to withdraw at least £100 million (U.S. $179.6 million) more between midnight on Aug. 27 and midnight on Aug. 30 than they did during the same bank holiday weekend in 2003. The group attributed the rise to an increase in the number of ATMs available across the country, as well as the bank holiday falling at the end of the month after people have been paid. Barclays, which will introduce a new warning on all its ATM screens next month giving consumers advice on what to do if a cash machine looks as though it has been tampered with, urged people to be vigilant when withdrawing money.
