SAN FRANCISCO -- Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) is launching a test program to see if customers are willing to accept promotional messages while they do business at BofA ATMs.
The financial services institution is running advertisements at its 2,000 ATMs in California over the next two months. If the project is successful, the program could be expanded to cover BofA's nationwide network of 14,000 ATMs.
The commercials are seven seconds long, promote television programs and products, and run during the down time where customer requests are being processed. The commercials also run during periods where the ATM is not in use.
BofA officials told The Associated Pressthat it was too soon to say whether the program was working, but that it would only be continued if it proved a valuable service to customers.
